I have analysed some album covers and album art from popular artists within our genre

The maccabees



This is just an band photograph but this sets the general idea, the aged colour grading is the first indicator of a band in this genre.
Second most noticeably would be the clothing, they have a causal and sightly vintage look also assosiated with the indie culture.



This is there most recent album cover. Its very artisit and animated. Often within this genre album artwork includes alot of animation and more artistic flares as opposed to a glossy image of the band posing. This album cover also has clear hidden messages within in it in the way in which it features different types of people from all background suggesting a message of equality. Indie bands being said to have similar morals to those of the hippie culture often tend to be more open minded and experimental which they display withing their artwork and how the present themselves.

Recent alternative videos

This video is by James Blake who is part of the alternative genre but probably slightly less urban and more indie than our song choice. However his video has some of the key iconography you would expect to find and has seemed to advanced on that to make it very current and original. Originality is the main thing i like about this video as well as it being very abstract and symbolostic. The women character is an instant indicator of James Blakes genre by her fashion and her look which is very natural and unpolished.

Born to die - Lana del rey

Lana del rey is a very new and up and coming artist in this genre however she has solidly placed herself in the alternative genre with her music videos. Some of her early work before she was signed was posted to youtube and she made her own videos at home. This is her first real production and it although she obviously prefers not to be commerical and originality is key to her as she has made many of her own videos including her debut single 'video games'. Despite it being of commerical quality it doesn't ruin her image of being different and alternative.

Firstly the narrative of her video is about death hense the title 'born to die' which wouldnt usually be the topic of a pop video.

Whatsapp

One way in which we used media technology to help with our planning and research is whatsapp. This app allowed out group to have joint conversations and arrange dates.

We continued to gain footage and our next step was to film our scenic shots which will make up a large amount of our video.





The main thing we had in mind for this footage is the urban enviroment we want to achieve.

first filming!

Filming has begun! Our first project has to been to gather some of the more difficult and challenging footage first being any that involved people other than us in our group and the use of equipment here being balloons.









These are our first shots we managed to get. After blowing up many balloons and then realising we didnt have enough to fill up a room we opted for the bath!



The footage worked really well, the bright colours add life and depth to the footage and the lights beneath them make creative lighting. We have rewound the footage is it creates and interesting flow of the balloons.

Opening of our video

We have already decided that as an intro in to our song and music video will create a kind of flast flashing monatge of events to build the ofundations of the narrative in our video. A recent video where this has been done is in Lady Gagas new video marry the night.

At the end of this video there is a series of fast paced flashing clips. This is exactly how we want ours to be produced in paticular we like the speed and variation of the clips.
